Bhagwan Mahavira Wildlife Sanctuary is located at a distance
of 29 kilometers from Ponda. Tourists frequent this Wildlife
Sanctuary in the months of October to March. King cobra, Gaur,
Deer and Monkey are the highlights of the Sanctuary. Bhagwan
Mahavira Wildlife Sanctuary was earlier known as Mollem Game
Sanctuary. It is Goa's largest Wildlife preserve and sprawls
on an area of 240 square kilometers.
Mollem National Park forms the core of Bhagwan Mahavira Wildlife
Sanctuary. In 1978 it was declared as National Park. One can
spot a variety of animals in the sanctuary including leopards,
Chital, barking deer, mouse deer, Indian porcupine, flying squirrels,
bonnet macaque, and many more
The vegetation in the Park consists of Tropical evergreen forest,
Semi evergreen and moist deciduous forest. Bhagwan Mahavira
Wildlife Sanctuary boasts of the highest waterfall Dudhsagar
falls inside the Park. Another amazing spot inside the Park
is The 'Devil Canyon' (Devcharacho kond), a beautiful geological
rock formation. On your visit to the Wildlife Sanctuary do not
miss to visit Tambdi Surla, a Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva,
built in the thirteenth century.
