Rhinoplasty surgery takes around an hour or two to perform. It may take longer if the case is complicated. The skin of the nose is separated from the cartilage and the framework of the bone. It is then designed in the desired shape. The skin is then again shaped back on the bone structure. Surgery is performed either from within the nose by making incisions or an open procedure is undertake which is generally for complicated cases.
Like all surgeries Rhinoplasty surgery also involves a fair amount of risk. Though when performed by competent surgeons the complications are minor. Infection, reaction to anesthesia and bleeding of the nose are the common complication that can afflict a patient. Rhinoplasty surgery performed from the inside of the nose leaves no visible scar but when the open technique is performed for such as the narrowing of the flared nostrils there are small scars at the base of the nose.
