Injuries or surgery can leave on the skin marks which are scar tissues. After the damaged tissue has been healed it usually leaves a mark that again can be corrected through surgeries. Scar tissue can also form on internal wounds. When the skin heals scar tissues form. The amount of scar tissue may depend on the type of damage, the size and location of the wound, the skin characteristics of the person, heredity and the age of the patient. Scars form very easily for some. They occur when the wound heals. They are brown, pink or silver in color.
Scar Tissue Surgery
Scars reduce naturally as one age while surgery and medication is the next option that can correct any ugly scar on the body. Surgerical procedures are applied to reduce scars, rectify deformity from lesion or earlier surgery. Usually a patient has to wait for months or even a year to let the scar lighten for further surgery to correct it.
Abnormal scars or keloid are thick scars that recurs and are of different color and texture. They look like a tumor. When the keloid extends beyond the wound it is operated.
Scars caused by burns are known as Hypertropic scars. They cover a large area of the skin and often restrict movement of the tendons, muscles and joints
Surgery can never remove scars. It is often seen that surgical removal of scars always leaves scars behind which takes another two years to mature into a complete scar. Surgery can change the appearance of the scar and also change the alignment or shape of the scar that can be less noticeable. Surgery is never recommended for keloid or hypertrophic scarring since worse scars follow the operation.
Laser Surgery
Laser treatment for scars have not been proven effective. Though it is told that removal of skin layers with carbon dioxide laser helps to flatten scars. Vascular laser is also said to lessen the redness of the scar.
