The famous city of Ajmer was founded in the 11 th century by the Rajput ruler Ajayadeva . The city is home to the 13 th century Sufi saint Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chisti's dargah and the Mayo College, founded by the British in 1875 is one of the leading academic institutions of India. Lying on the foothills of the Aravallis on the banks of the Luni and Banas rivers, Ajmer is a mesmerizing city in the pulsating land of Rajasthan. For centuries the mosque has played host to Mughal emperors and modern celebrities. It also has an exquisite marble mosque built by Shah Jahan. Adhai Din Ka Jhopra: An electric mix of Indo-Islamic architecture the architectural marvel was constructed in two and a half days as the name suggests. A center of learning in the ancient times the architectural wonder has pillars built on the remains of Hindu and Jain temples. Mohammad Ghori annexed Ajmer and converted this into Mosque in two and a half days.
Nasiyan Temple: This ancient Jain temple built in 1865 built in red sandstone has a hall displaying picturesque images from the Jain mythology.
Foy Sagar: This spectacular lake was built during a famine relief programme. Named after the architect who envisaged the plan of the lake, it offers panoramic views from the hill.
Taragarh Fort: Perched atop a hill, it was a military establishment of the Mughals. The exquisite fort offers magnificent views of the city.
Ana Sagar Lake: Constructed in the 12 th century the Ana Sagar Lake is an ideal venue fro languid strolls in the mornings and evenings.
Government Museum: It was built in 1570 by Akbar as his royal palace. It was later converted into a government museum which has retained Rajput and Mughal armory. The museum also houses exquisite frescoes, rock findings and stone inscriptions.
