Introduction
Built in 1593 by Raja Rai Singh, the Junagarh Fort is one of the most famous forts of Rajasthan. Raja Rai Singh was an important man in Akbar�s court. For his dedicated services towards the ruler he was gifted large portions of land.
Description
The fort is enclosed by a stone wall that is about 950 meters high which is again encircled by a moat. The double protection ensured complete security and defense.
The Suraj Pol and Daulat Pol are the two main gateways to the Junagarh Fort. The Daulat Pol has the hand imprints of the ladies of the royal family who committed sati or self immolation on their husband�s pyre. The other smaller gates to Junagarh Fort are Karan Pol, Chand Pol and Fateh Pol.
There are as many as 37 majestic palaces in the fort. Some of the palaces are Anup Mahal, Ganga Niwas and Rang Mahal.
The Har Mandir is the beautiful temple inside the fort that was built for the royal family.
