Kalika Mata Temple

Introduction

Kalika, a form of Goddess Durga and a manifestation of Lord Shivas consort, Parvati, is the patron goddess of Chittorgarh. Built by Bappa Rawal around 700 AD, the Kalika Mata Temple is popularly known as Devi Mata Temple. It is located near Padminis Palace. Dedicated to the Sun God, the temple displays images of the Sun God on the gates, shrine and walls.

Maharana Hamir Singh I was the first ruler who installed an idol of Kalika after he recaptured his fort. The ruins of the temple remains since the attack of the Sultan of Delhi, Ala-ud-din Khilji. The spire of the temple has been lost yet the beauty remains untouched. An important fair takes place every year where followers of Goddess Kalika come from all across the country.
