Central Baptist Church

"My religion consists of a humble admiration for the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind" -Albert Einstein

The most ancient Christian Mission in North Delhi is also known as the Central Baptist Church. In the later part of the 18th Century the Baptist Missionary Society or BMS, London, acquired a land adjacent to the Red Fort and then set up the Central Baptist Mission (in the year 1814).

Being the earliest Church of Old Delhi, the Central Baptist Church has a unique structure. It is constructed with highest level of precision and delicacy.

On its Southern side there is a colossal and subterranean arcaded portico propped up on thick heavy globular columns. On the other two sides there are light porches with semi circular vaulted openings.

The church's maintenance had been excellent and incredible so-much-so that almost the entire building has been able to retain its factual structure. The church was re-constructed with shingles and iron beams.

Those that devoted their entire lives in the church services have been remembered; the reminiscence of those great souls can be found in grafted in the walls of the Church.
