Introduction
Built in 1659 by Shah Jahan's wife, the Fatehpuri Masjid is located on Chandni Chowk. The architecture of Fatehpuri Masjid is magnificent. The single dome and the imposing minarets offer a majestic look to the mosque. The central prayer hall has seven arched gateways.
The architecture of Fatehpuri Masjid is not archetypal Mughal style of architecture. The mosque is built on a platform of three feet high. The two domes of the mosque are made of strips of marble.
It is believed that during the 1857 Sepoy Mutiny, the British auctioned some parts of Fatehpuri Masjid to a Hindu family.
