It is believed that the Hanging Gardens were laid in 1881 over Bombay's main reservoir to prevent the entry of dirty and polluted water from the nearby Towers of Silence. The Hanging Gardens also known as Pherozshah Mehta Gardens were laid in 1881 and refurbished in 1921. These gardens derive its name from the way they are located on the slope of a hill. The terrace garden overlooks the Malabar Hills towards Colaba and offers a breathtaking view of the sunset against the Arabian Sea.
