These conflicting uncertainties kept him pre occupied in search of an independent and legitimate means of livelihood. Soon the poet in him found expression through the beautiful verses, poems and writings. He lived a life of comfort in Delhi and soon gave way to the most comprehensive and significant styles of Ghazals in Urdu before reaching twenty. His interests slowly shifted from Urdu poetry to Persian verses till 1847 when he official gained entry to the Mughul court. After The death of the last Mughul king Bahadur Shah Zafar who was never too keen on Ghalib's poetry, Mirza Ghalib was appointed to write the official history of the Mughul dynasty. In spite of his repute and the respect he gained as the greatest of Urdu and Persian poets, Ghalib could not establish his roots anywhere in Delhi, nor could he materialize his dream of having a secured and regular source of livelihood. None of his children survived which perhaps finds echo in his Ghazals. His poems reflected the more than vulnerable existence he had. During the revolting years between 1857 and 1869, Ghalib remained confined to his house, shaken by the massacre, the deaths of his near ones and the horrors. Ghalib reinvented the art of letter writings. The first collection of his letters 'Ud-i-Hindi' was published in 1868. Ghalib died a few months later, on 15th February 1869.
