"I tend to live in the past because most of my life is there"- Herb Caen
The past becomes a live phenomenon before us as we stopover at the Lodi Garden; it has been fashioned by the Lodis and Sayyids of 15th and 16th Centuries.
The Lodi Garden provides you perfect prospect to stroll in the morning and the evening, far off from the din and bustle of the city, so that fresh air may rejuvenate you. The fabulous medieval monuments will provide you the spare appeal while you saunter around the backyard of the Lodis.
The main structural appeals here are:
Muhammad Shah's Tomb is an octagonal configuration that is encased by a verandah; it serves as a mosque too. There are 8 toms inside the building, the central one is supposed to be that of Muhammad Shah.
Bara Gumbad Masjid situated 300 meters from Muhammad Shah's tomb with its adjacent Mosque built of ashlars is bedecked with colored tiles, foliage and Quranic inscriptions. It was constructed during the time of Sikander Lodi.
The main feature of this is the absence of any grave inside which had led to confusion and debate among the anthropologists and critics alike.
Shish Gumbad located 50 km north of Bara Gumbad has a double storied appearance, the sides of the core building is set in extrapolative framework, but the grave inside this belongs to some anonymous Lodi or Sayyid, because the designation is not imprinted over the tomb.
Sikander Lodi Tomb is also an octagonal chamber that is sliced open by three archways that lies on the elevation of the chamber.
Athpula is the bridge with seven arches while the word pula refers to piers. They were constructed during the time of the Mughals. It was believed to have been erected at the time of Akbar's reign by Nawab Bahadur.
It is advisable to the visitors not to stride the steps of the tomb because they are very steep and dark; there is en enormous scope of sliding down. You may admire them from a distance and hover in the park.
