Introduction: The cremation site of the Father of the Nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was formed as a memorial of Gandhiji is known as Rajghat. A few miles away from Connaught Place, the cremation site got its current name as at one point of time it was a major 'ghat' or stepped embankment at the rim of the Yamuna river. Mahatma Gandhi was cremated at this ghat on 31st January in 1948, after his assassination. The last words of Mahatma Gandhi - "Hey Ram" are inscribed on the platform of the memorial and are surrounded by an undying flame.
Location: Rajghat is located between the main Ring Road and the banks of River Yamuna on the south-east of Red Fort.
Admission Fee: Entry into Rajghat is free of cost and it is open to all and the required timing is about 40 minutes.
Admission Timings: The preferable timings are- from April to September (5.00 a.m. to 7.30 p.m.) and from October to March (5.30 a.m. to 7.00 p.m.)
How to reach: People can avail local buses, hired auto-rickshaws, taxis or metro rail from various places of the city.
