Introduction: Salimgarh Fort was built on an island of River Yamuna in the year 1546, by Islam Shah Suri, also known as Salim Shah, son and successor of Sher Shah Suri. The Salimgarh Fort in Old Delhi is enclosed by rock-hard rubble masonry ramparts and is many-sided in shape to some extent. The entrance to the fort is allowed from its gate on the northern side. This north gate is also called Bahadur Shahi Gate as it was constructed by Bahadur Shah Zafar in 1854 to 1855. The gate is built of brick masonry with red sandstone at places. The fort has quite a few towering citadels the ruins of which can be seen in the present times.
Location: Salimgarh Fort is located at a distance of 1 kilometer north-east from the Red Fort on the Ring Road after crossing the National Memorial.
Admission Fee: Entry into the fort is free of cost and the fort is open for everyone on all days.
Admission Timings: The preferable timing for visiting the fort is between 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the time required for seeing the sights is about 40 minutes.
How to reach: People can avail local buses, hired auto-rickshaws, taxis or metro rail from various spots in the city to reach the fort.
