It was in 1869 that the foundation stone for the Senate House in Chennai was laid down. There is a huge central hall in the ground floor, with the corridors supported by six huge stone pillars, with stone arches in between and four distinct towers on all corners of the Senate House. There is a convocation Hall, beautiful porticos, a parapet that surrounds these porticos, halls for meetings, a library etc. the Offices of the Vice Chancellor and the Registrar are present in the Senate House Chennai. The depredation of time and climate has deteriorated the conditions of the Senate House to a considerable extent and immediate renovation should be done in order to preserve the heritage of this monument in Chennai.
