The History of the Moth Ki Masjid is very interesting indeed. Miyan Bhuwa, a minister in the court of Sikandar Lodhi was taking a stroll with the king. Suddenly the king bent down and picked up a grain. The grain was a form of lentil.
The king who was very fond of the minister decided to give it to him. He accepted it with gratitude but wondered what he would do with it. For the moment he kept it in his pocket but after he returned home he kept thinking.
He spent the whole night speculating on how the gift that the king had given him could be utilized. It was just a single piece of grain and as no idea was coming to his mind he thought that it would be better for him to throw it away.
On second thoughts, he refrained from doing so because that would mean disrespecting the king. He loved and revered the king and had no intention of insulting him in any way. If he parted with the king's gift in this manner it implied that he did not value the king's gift.
Now he had a new worry. He did not know how to preserve the gift that the king had given him. When he woke up in the morning a new idea came to his mind. His garden spread over acres of land and so he decided that it would be best for him to plant the grain in his garden.
He sowed the seed in his garden. The seedling grew rapidly and surprised everyone by yielding a large produce. Within years the produce touched a record level.
He then decided that he would build a mosque with the surplus money. All this was the result of that single grain of moth or lentil and so the mosque was also named Moth Ki Masjid. He even invited King Sikandar Lodhi to come and visit this splendid structure, the construction of which was made possible because of the gift that he had given.
