Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary located in the rainshadow area of the Western Ghats, spreads over an area of 90,422 sq. kms. The wildlife sanctuary in Chinnar was declared as a sanctuary in 1984. Chinnar in Kerala is situated in Idukki district and is famous for the undulated terrain with rock-strewn patches, unique thorny scrub forest, dry deciduous trees and wet grasslands. A number of reptiles like Kraits, spectacled cobras, turtles and vipers can also be spotted in the sanctuary.
