About Puttaparthi
Puttaparthi is located in the state of Andhra Pradesh in southern India. Puttaparthi is situated at a distance of 400 kilometers from Hyderabad, and was initially a village called Chitravati. Puttaparthi is 18 miles from Penukonda and has become a centre of immense attraction.
Situated in the Ananthapur district, Puttaparthi is the domicile of Shri Satya Sai Baba, and is surrounded by the dry and rocky hills bordering Karnataka.
Tourist Attraction
The major tourist attraction of Puttaparthi is the abode of Bhagwan Shri Satya Sai Baba. Born on 23rd November in 1926 in Puttaparthi, the original name of Sai Baba is �Satyanarayana Raju�.
The ashram built by him called �Prashanti Nilayam�, which means �abode of peace�, was inaugurated in 1950. The huge complex of the ashram houses rooms for thousands, canteens, shops, a museum and a library. The ashram also has a huge assembly hall.
The museum of Sai Baba is located on the nearby hill. The museum portrays the story of Satya Sai Baba, from his birth to the time he achieved �Nirvana�. The museum also houses models of various temple structures.
