About Chidambaram:
The city of Chidambaram is located in the state of Tamil Nadu in southern India. The word 'Chidambaram' has been derived from 'Chit Ambaram' which accurately means the sky pervaded by an atmosphere of intelligence and acumen. According to the myths, Lord Nataraja emerged from the holy sky and performed his Cosmic Dance before his two devotees.
The city of Chidambaram was a part of the Chola Dynasty and is a significant place of pilgrimage for its Nataraja Temple or Chidambaram Temple.

- The Kali Temple- is located on the northernmost part of the city. The temple was constructed by Kopperunjingan, who ruled in the territory between 1229 A.D. and 1278 A.D.
- The residential Annamalai University- is located on the eastern periphery of the city and was founded by Raja Sir Annamalai Chettiar. This university offers educational facilities in many subjects like Medical and Engineering, and is a good center of Carnatic music and Tamil learning.
- Pichavaram- is one of the wonderful scenic spots in Tamil Nadu and is located at a distance of 16 kilometers east of Chidambaram. Pichavaram comprises of a huge number of islands interspersing a huge expanse of water and covered with greenery.
- Neyveli- is one of the biggest industrial complexes in the state and is 50 kilometers from the city of Chidambaram.
