India is a heaven for those who take delight in watching the wild animals in the natural surrounding. Wild animals available in India are as diverse as the landscape in the country.
Stretching from the lofty Himalayan region up north to the Indian Ocean down south, from the Arabian Sea in the west to the Eastern Himalayas, India has several pockets of jungles replete with exotic flora and fauna across the entire landscape. Very few lands on earth can boast of so much diversity.
Although size of the forested land has shrink down to a large extent due to heavy population and urbanization, which has duly taken a toll of wildlife, the government has taken several measures to conserve the wild animals.
India is literally dotted with numerous wild life sanctuaries and national parks where wild animals roam about in the natural environment undisturbed by the human activities.
Since long past many people abroad identify India either with elephant or tiger. And India is also the only place where you would find Asiatic Lion outside Africa. Tramp along the wilderness of the northeastern India to Kaziranga in Assam where you would see the one-horned rhino. Panthers, leopards and endless variety of deer may come across your eyes anywhere in India. Stretch your imagination a little to see yourself on a camel back trudging across the desert sands. Come to Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. Monkeys, langoors, jackals, rabbits, snakes, lizards, crocodiles, butterflies � it is an unending list, which would hold you by utter surpise.
Last but not the least important are the birds, which are available in abundant variety on the Indian lands. Peacock the National bird of the nation is possibly the most beautiful bird on earth. During the winter, when the Siberian regions get chilled, watch out the Indian lakesides where the Siberian avifauna comes to find a cozy warm corner.
