The Bandhavgarh National Park is located amidst the Vindhyan range of mountains in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The nearest town is Umaria which is at a distance of about 30 km. Jabalpur airport is about 170 km away.
The Bandhavgarh National park which was declared a park in the year 1968 covers an area of about 437 sq km. Major stretch of the jungle is covered with Sal trees. Bamboo trees and grasslands are also to be found in the northern portion of the forest. There are a number of water bodies to quench the thirst of wild animals.
The park is home to a large variety of animals but the chief attraction is definitely the majestic tiger. Other inhabitants of the park are chital, chinkara, nilgai, wild boar, jungle cat, porcupine, and hyena. The famous white tigers of Rewa were also discovered in this park but unfortunately they are not to be seen anymore.
A wide variety of feathered creatures can also be seen in the Bandhavgarh National Park. In the winters the steppe eagle and other water birds can be seen in addition to the 150 species of birds already residing here. Some of the birds which can be spotted here are the Hornbills, Parakeets, Flycatchers, Drongos, Woodshrikes, fantails.
A visit to the Bandhavgarh National Park is a must to all animal lovers. Those interested in wildlife photography will surely get a chance to capture many things on camera. No adventure lover should miss out on any opportunity to explore the mysteries of this splendid wilderness.
